Students will learn the basics of Finnish. After the course, students will be able to talk about themselves using simple expressions, and will have the prerequisites for coping in simple everyday situations. One course topic will be characteristics of spoken Finnish and its use in different everyday situations. The course is intensive and students are required to be active. The key points of the course will be basic grammar, pronunciation, vocabulary, and Finnish culture. The target skill level is A1.2. (according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, CEFR).
The core of the course is the textbook Suomen mestari 1. We will start from chapter 1 and finish with chapter 4 or 5. In addition, interesting discussions, language games and cultural practices are also included in the course curriculum. Learning the course topics demands an active role of the student: the students are expected to participate actively in the lessons, do homework and study vocabulary.
The language of tuition is English.
Participating in the classes and taking the course test. Getting a complete certificate requires passing the course test. Evaluation: Pass/Fail.
In order to pass the course, the students need to attend at least 70 or 80 % of the lessons.
Textbook Suomen mestari 1. Sonja Gehring & Sanni Heinzmann, Finn Lectura, from chapter 1 onwards.
The book is not included in the course fee. The book is available at local bookstores and libraries, or can be ordered online.
Note! Please buy or borrow the book before the course begins! Each participant will need their own book.
