Finnish Elementary Courses 1–4 (or equivalent)
Upon successful completion of Finnish Advanced Course 1, students will be able to communicate orally and in written form on various matters connected to familiar themes. They will also be able to give quite detailed accounts of different situations and events, and understand such accounts. With the help of a dictionary, students will be able to read texts whose structural requirements are slightly below standard newspaper language.
During the course, students are acquainted with basic Finnish grammar and vocabulary connected to different themes. In addition, they engage in structural and communicative exercises focusing on the topics covered.
Active participation in the course. There will be an examination after the course. Assessment is based on participation in the course and the final examination.
Group instruction: 52 hours
Independent work: approximately 56 hours
Evaluation: Numeric 1–5.
