The course may be included in the Tampere University of Applied Sciences (TAMK) degree upon request.
Online course August 4th – September 2nd, 2020, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 16.30–19.50
Participants will need a computer with an internet connection to participate on the course.
Chinese Elementary Course II is meant for students who have already taken the Chinese Elementary Course I (5 credits), or acquired the equivalent skills elsewhere (circa 50 to 60 lessons of previous studies). People whose native language is Mandarin Chinese cannot participate in the course.
Skill level A1 (on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, CEFR)
After the course, the students
- - have obtained a larger vocabulary
- - have improved their reading and listening comprehension skills
- - have learnt more characters with the help of pinyin system
- - recognise familiar characters without pinyin
- - can express themselves in simple situations.
During the course, the students will do practical discussion exercises, short listening comprehension tasks, simple writing exercises, as well different kinds of usage exercises which will strengthen their language skills. The languages of tuition are English and Chinese, with Finnish used as a supportive language if necessary.

The book is not included in the course fee; it can be bought from the teacher.
Modes of study
60 lessons (à 45 min.) as well as independent work. Regular attendance and active participation in class, as well as a final exam, which will be evaluated on scale 1 to 5. In order to pass the course, the student needs to attend at least 80 per cent of the lessons.
The exam will be held on the final lesson
The date of the retake exam will be announced later.
You can continue your Chinese studies on Chinese Intermediate Course I. The course will start in September.
