Chinese Elementary Course I

Online course May 26th – June 25th, 2020, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 16.30–19.50
Note! The course will start a week later than originally planned.
The course is meant for people who have not studied Chinese previously. People who speak Mandarin Chinese as their native tongue cannot participate on the course.
Skill level A1 (on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, CEFR)
After completing Chinese Elementary I, the students have gained an overview of Chinese and are able to
- - communicate in easy and simple everyday situations (for example greeting someone, saying goodbye, introducing themselves and apologizing)
- - use expressions that are necessary in everyday conversations
- - answer questions and tell about themselves
- - read simple texts with the help of pinyin system and recognize some characters without pinyin
- - write simple characters
During the course, the students will do tasks that are related to everyday life: listening comprehension, grammar, pronunciation and conversation exercises. The languages of tuition are English and Chinese, with Finnish used as a support language when necessary.

The book is not included in the course fee. The book costs approximately 30-40 euros and can be bought from the teacher in class.
Modes of study
60 lessons. Active participation in class and taking the final exam, which will be evaluated on scale 1-5. In order to pass the course, the student will need to attend at least 80 per cent of the lessons.
The exam is held on the final lesson.
The date of the retake exam will be announced later.
Students need to sign up for the retake exam using the online exam enrolment form (available only in Finnish). You can check the venue from the exam calendar. If you need assistance with the retake exam enrolment, please contact our office.
