Online course August 4th– August 20th, 2020, on the following days:
4.–5.8. Tuesday-Wednesday at 16.30–19.45
6.8. Thursday at 16.30–19.00
11.–13.8. Tuesday-Thursday at 16.30–19.45
18.–20.8. Tuesday-Thursday at 16.30–19.45
One lesson will be decided with the group.
We will use the Moodle online learning environment and the Zoom platform on the course. Participants will need a computer with an internet connection, microphone, and a camera. The Moodle user id and more information about Zoom will be sent by email before the course begins.
Previous studies in Finnish are not required.
Upon successful completion of the course, students will know the foundations of Finnish pronunciation and the most common core vocabulary. In addition, they will be able to use and understand short and simply structured Finnish expressions that concern some of the most common everyday matters (introducing themselves, buying and paying, telling the time, food, asking and answering questions, location and moving around).
During the course, students are acquainted with the Finnish sound and spelling system, basic grammar and core vocabulary. Students engage in pronunciation, sound recognition, and structural and communicative exercises that focus on the topics covered.
Modes of study
Active participation in the course. There will be an examination after the course. Assessment is based on participation in the course and the final examination.
Group instruction: 39 hours
Independent work: approximately 42 hours
Evaluation: Numeric 1–5.

The exam dates will be announced later.
You do not need to enrol for the final exam.
If you want to take the retake exam, please enrol by sending an email to our office. You should enrol 5 workdays before the exam.
The course corresponds to the curriculum of Tampere University’s Language Centre (KKSU1).
After completing this course, you can continue studying on Finnish Elementary Course 2 - KKSU2.
