We will use the Moodle online learning environment and the Zoom platform on the course. Participants will need a computer with an internet connection, microphone, and a camera. The Moodle user id and more information about Zoom will be sent by email before the course begins.
Previous studies: Finnish Elementary Course 1 (or equivalent)
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to use and understand simply structured Finnish expressions that concern some of the most common everyday matters (location and moving, using the imperative, requesting, state of health). Students will also be able to describe some of the most important things about themselves, their families and their immediate surroundings, and understand descriptions given about such topics. In addition, students will be able to give accounts of events belonging to the past time, and understand corresponding accounts.
During the course, students are acquainted with basic Finnish grammar and core vocabulary, and engage in structural and communicative exercises focusing on the topics covered.
Modes of study
Active participation in the course. There will be an examination after the course.
Group instruction: 39 hours
Independent work: approximately 42 hours
Evaluation: Numeric 1–5.
Assessment is based on participation in the course and the final examination.

The welcoming letter (sent approximately 2 weeks before the course starts) will contain more information about where you can buy the materials.
The exam dates will be announced later.
You do not need to enrol for the final exam.
If you want to take the retake exam, please enrol by sending an email to our office. You should enrol 5 workdays before the exam.
The course corresponds to the curriculum of Tampere University’s Language Centre (KKSU2).
We will offer several Finnish language courses in the autumn semester. More information will be available on our website in July at the latest.
