Study contents

This course provides a foundation in English  language, specifically in  English for Academic and Specific Purposes,  which includes using  academic vocabulary, specific business  terminology, active class  discussions, to bring students’ English  language skills to an advanced  level. It aims to build students’  competence in English with a specific  focus on business topics. The  students practice reading skills in  English using different reading  techniques (skimming, scanning,  predicting, etc.) and improve speaking  skills in the contexts of  meetings, discussions, negotiations,  seminars, and various tasks. This  course gives students practice in  reading academic texts, exposing them  to topics and vocabulary closely  related to business areas and aims to  enhance students’ skills of  comprehending and analyzing texts in  relevant genres for business and  academic contexts. This course also  prepares students for academic  writing style.

Study goals

Students will be able to

-actively and spontaneously participate in professional discussions,

-adapt their communication in relation to different audience,

-listen critically and express their own argumentation clearly and logically,

-respond and ask questions formally and appropriately in general and professional situations,

-deliver professional presentations in English in groups and individually,

-critically assess their own and others’ professional communication,

-understand professional and academic texts from a range of relevant topics in their own field and assess and evaluate them,

-summarise the texts and write commentaries in the appropriate style,

-write coherent and convincing, reader friendly professional documents and

-adopt and activate vocabulary from texts related to their field.
