Arabic Alphabet: Reading, Writing, and Pronunciation - distance learning

Online course 5.–26.8.2026 on Wednesdays at 16.30–19.00
We will use Zoom and Moodle platforms on the course. To participate, you will need a computer with a reliable internet connection, a microphone, and a camera. More information about the platforms will be sent by email approximately 1 week before the 1st lesson.
The course is taught in English.
Target group
Absolute beginners who would like to learn the Arabic alphabet from the beginning. The course is suitable for students with no previous knowledge of Arabic, as well as for those who have tried learning the script before but would like to practise it more slowly and systematically.

Objectives and contents
The course focuses on learning to recognise, read, write, and pronounce the Arabic letters. No grammar is required or introduced. The aim is to build confidence with the script and the basic sounds of Arabic, giving students a solid foundation for further Arabic studies.
During the course, we will work on:
recognising Arabic letters in their different forms
learning how letters connect in words
practising the pronunciation of Arabic sounds
reading simple syllables and short words aloud
practising writing the letters by hand
developing confidence with the direction and structure of Arabic script
The course is taught in English.
Modes of study
Active and regular attendance.
Materials
Teacher’s own materials. No book is required. The materials will include prepared alphabet sheets, pronunciation practice, writing exercises, and simple reading practice.
