8.9.-1.12.2026, every other week on Tuesdays at 17.00-19.00

The Moodle learning environment and the Zoom system are used in teaching. Students must have a good internet connection, a microphone and a camera.

Target group

Suitable for students who want a new perspective on studying English and enjoy conversation. Skill level B1-B2 on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, CEFR

Description

Reading is especially important when studying a foreign language, as it helps expand vocabulary, strengthens grammar, supports writing skills and, of course, expands world knowledge.

The course is intended for adult learners of English at intermediate level (B1–B2) who wish to develop their reading skills through a variety of authentic texts. The course combines accessible non-fiction, such as articles and essays, with carefully selected short fiction from contemporary writers.

The emphasis is on understanding main ideas and detail in real English texts, expanding vocabulary in context, and developing confidence in reading longer and more varied material. Rather than focusing on coursebook exercises, the course encourages discussion, interpretation, and personal response to texts. Students gradually build the skills needed to read more independently and engage with authentic literature in English.

Students receive a new text in Moodle after each meeting, leaving them with two weeks to read the text. The texts are chosen from current themes and contemporary literature.

Scope

Estimated student workload 30 lessons (á 45 min), of which 19 lessons are online teaching. It is recommended to set aside approximately 45-90 min/text for reading

You will get an early bird discount of EUR10 when you enrol on this course on 16.8.2026 at the latest and pay the course fee online after filling in the enrolment form. After 16.8., the course fee will be 120 euros.
