Information about our teaching venues

Target group

Chinese Elementary Course 1 is meant for people who have not studied Chinese previously. People who speak Mandarin Chinese as their native tongue cannot participate on the course.

Aim

Skill level A1 (on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, CEFR)

After completing Chinese Elementary I, the students have gained an overview of Chinese and are able to

• communicate in easy and simple everyday situations such as greeting someone, saying goodbye, introducing themselves and shopping
• use expressions that are necessary in everyday conversations
• answer questions and tell about themselves
• read simple texts with the help of pinyin system and recognize some characters without pinyin
• write simple characters

Contents

During the course, the students will do tasks that are related to everyday life: listening comprehension, grammar, pronunciation and conversation exercises. The languages of tuition are English and Chinese.

The book is not included in the course fee. More information about how to order the book will be sent by email. The information will also be available in Moodle.

Modes of study

60 lessons. Active participation in class and taking the final exam, which will be evaluated on scale 1–5. 

To pass the course, the student will need to attend at least 80 per cent of the lessons.

Exam

Final exam will be held on the final lesson.

Retake exams in January and February 2027 (more information will be available later)
