Finnish for Beginners 2 (distance learning)

Online course 13.1.–16.4.2025 Mondays and Wednesdays at 17.00–18.30
No lessons on week 9.
We will use Zoom and Moodle platforms. To participate, you will need a computer with a reliable internet connection, a microphone, and a camera. You will get more information about the platforms by email approximately 1 week before the 1st lesson.
Target group
The course is suitable for those who have participated on Finnish for Beginners 1 or whose skill level is A1.2 (on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).

Contents
We will continue studying Finnish on level A1. The aim of the course is to strengthen participants’ skills and to proceed on the next skill level. After the course, participants will be able to cope with basic everyday situations and talk about themselves using simple expressions. We will work independently, in pairs, and in small groups.
The textbook Suomen mestari 1 forms the core of the course. The book will be studied from chapter 5 onwards. Learning the course topics requires active participation, doing homework and studying new vocabulary. Languages of tuition are English and Finnish.
Modes of study
The course comprises 52 lessons (à 45 minutes) as well as independent work. The student workload of a 4 ECTS course is approximately 108 hours (including lessons and independent work).
Participants need to attend the lessons regularly and be active, do homework and take the final exam, which will be evaluated on scale 1–5.
To pass the course, students need to attend at least 70 or 80 per cent of the lessons.

Suomen mestari 1, Sonja Gehring and Sanni Heinzmann, Finn Lectura, new edition, from chapter 5 onwards.
