Target group
The course is suitable for those who have participated on Intermediate Course in Finnish 1, or whose skill level is B1.1 (on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, CEFR).
You have studied the textbooks Suomen mestari 1 and 2, as well as the first half of Suomen mestari 3 (chapters 1–4), or you have equivalent skills.
Ideally, you can use past tenses, passive, and plural cases. If necessary, we can revise grammatical issues during the course.
See our Student’s Guide for more information about the order our Finnish language courses are meant to be taken.
Objectives
Skill level B1.1 (on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, CEFR)
Contents
We will continue from where Intermediate Course in Finnish 1 ended. The textbook Suomen mestari 3 forms the core of the course. We will study the book from chapter 5 to chapter 8.
We will practise with the help of various assignments, texts, exercises, and games. We will also practise oral skills a lot: speaking, running errands, and colloquial Finnish.
Students are required to be active and do their homework: learning the course topics requires active participation, doing homework and studying new vocabulary. The language of tuition is Finnish, but English will be used as supportive language when necessary.
Modes of study
The course comprises 52 lessons (à 45 minutes) as well as independent work. The student workload of a 4 ECTS course is approximately 108 hours (including lessons and independent work).
Participants need to attend the lessons regularly and be active, do homework and take the final exam, which will be evaluated on scale 1–5.
To pass the course, students need to attend at least 70 or 80 per cent of the lessons.
