Journey to Ukraine without leaving the couch - distance lessons

Contact online lessons 20.5.–17.6. and 5.–26.8.2025 on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 17.00–18.30 (no lesson on 29.5.). The course consist of 2 periods and there is a break in between the periods.
We will use the Zoom platform on the course. Participants will need a reliable internet connection, a microphone, and (if possible) a camera.
Target group
This course is designed for learners who already have A2–B1 level proficiency in the Ukrainian language and wish to improve their skills by exploring cultural and historical contexts.
Contents
Participants will get to know 15 Ukrainian cities, enrich their vocabulary, broaden their knowledge of Ukrainian history and culture, and practice active language use.
Main topics:
The course covers the following cities: Kyiv, Lviv, Odesa, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, Khmelnytskyi, Sumy, Mariupol, Luhansk, Donetsk, and others. Participants will learn about each city’s characteristics, related historical events, cultural traditions, and significant figures.
The course provides an opportunity not only to develop language skills but also to deepen understanding of Ukraine and its diverse culture.
Teaching methods: lectures, discussions, listening exercises, interactive activities
Main languages of instruction is Ukrainian, explanations will be given in Finnish (also English if needed).
Objectives
- Improve communication skills
- Enrich vocabulary, especially with synonyms and verbs
- Introduce the cultural heritage of Ukrainian cities
- Develop listening comprehension in Ukrainian
Modes of study
The course consists of 30 lessons (à 45 min.) as well as independet work. There will be no end-of-the-course test.
Materials
Teacher's own materials. Moodle learning environment will be used on the course.
