Ukrainian Intermediate Course 1 (4 ECTS) - distance learning

Time

Online course 11.9.–18.12.2025 on Thursdays at 17.00–20.15 (no lessons on 9.10 and 16.10.)

We will use Zoom and Moodle platforms on the course. To participate, you will need a computer with an internet connection, a micophone and a camera. More information about Zoom and Moodle will be sent by email before the course begins.

Target group

Ukrainian Intermediate Course 1 is meant for students who have already taken Ukrainian Elementary Courses 1 and 2 or acquired equivalent skills elsewhere (skill level A1.3 on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, CEFR).

After Ukrainian Intermediate Course 1, students can

• describe their immediate surroundings (e.g. family, city)
  make polite requests
  read simple texts and write short letters in Ukrainian
  describe common ailments
  understand sentences and frequently-used expressions related to the areas of experience most immediately relevant to them

Contents

On this course we will revise the topics of the previous courses. We will learn new, expanded grammar and vocabulary. Each lesson will consist of reading texts, dictations, and speaking and listening exercises.

Grammar: revision of noun and it's 6 cases; comparative adjectives; verb past, present and future; adverbs; question words; reciprocal and reflective pronouns.

Main languages of instruction are Finnish and Ukrainian (also English if needed).

Modes of study

The  course comprises 52 lessons (à 45 minutes) as well as independent work. The student workload of a 4 ECTS course is approximately 108 hours  (including lessons and independent work). To  pass the course, participants need to attend the lessons regularly and be active, do  homework and take the final exam, which will be evaluated on scale 0–5.  To pass the course, students need to attend at least about 80 per cent  of the lessons.

You can also participate in the course without taking the final exam, in which case you will not get a performance of the course and no ECTS.

Materials

Yuri I. Shevchuk: Beginner's Ukrainian with Interactive Online Workbook, 3rd Integrated edition, chapters 8–11 (we will start by briefly reviewing the first chapters of the book)

The book is not included in the course fee.

There will also be material provided by the teacher (via Moodle). You will also need a notebook to practise writing. 

Early bird discount 

You will get an early bird discount of EUR10 when you enrol on this course by 14.8.2025 and pay the course fee online after filling in the enrolment form. After 15.8. the course fee will be 150 euros.
