  • handle short social exchanges
  • understand clear audio materials, including Ukrainian songs
  • read simple non adaptive texts and write in Ukrainian
  • describe common ailments
  • express future possibility
  • write simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest
  • speak with improved fluency, use broader vocabulary and apply key grammar structures naturally in real-life contexts

Contents

This course follows Lessons 12–15 of Beginner’s Ukrainian and strengthens the skills students gained earlier. We will review key topics from the beginning of the book, learn grammar and new vocabulary related to food, daily routines, invitations, future plans, holidays, travel and university life. Special attention will be given to using the correct noun forms with different numerals, expressing needs and obligations and managing typical everyday interactions.

Listening, writing and reading skills will be improved through Ukrainian songs, targeted exercises, short dictations and additional texts. Interactive speaking activities will help students build confidence and communicate more naturally in a wider range of real-life situations.

Main languages of instruction are Finnish and Ukrainian (also English if needed).

Modes of study

The course comprises 52 lessons (à 45 minutes) as well as independent work. The student workload of a 4 ECTS course is approximately 108 hours (including lessons and independent work). To pass the course, participants need to attend the lessons regularly and be active, do homework and take the final exam, which will be evaluated on scale 0–5. To pass the course, students need to attend at least about 80 per cent of the lessons.

You can also participate in the course without taking the final exam, in which case you will not get a performance of the course and no ECTS.
