Objectives
Skill level B1-B2 (on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, CEFR)
After the Ukrainian Intermediate Course 4, students can
- understand the content, structure and details of more complex texts, news and spoken presentations
- communicate on a wide range of everyday and professional topics.
- express opinions clearly and support them with arguments in discussions.
- produce coherent monologues describing events, issues and abstract ideas.
- write well-structured texts in different genres, such as essays, instructions, advises, letters and short analytical pieces.
- use an extended range of grammatical structures confidently and adapt language to different situations.
Contents
The course covers a broad selection of communicative themes that help students use Ukrainian confidently in real-life situations. Students learn to speak about future plans, travel, tourism, Ukrainian regions, weather, sports, health, feelings, cultural traditions, social issues and ecological awareness. They also work with topics like rights and responsibilities, safety rules, stress management, giving recommendations, comparing countries and writing reviews or short essays.
The grammatical content includes future tense forms, comparison of adjectives and adverbs, prefixed motion verbs, modal expressions of necessity and permission, conditional clauses, sentences with ЯКЩО and ЩОБ, the imperative, and all noun cases. Through authentic texts and listening tasks, students develop skills in understanding descriptions, predictions, stories, unexpected situations and aspects of Ukrainian culture. The course strengthens the ability to express opinions, describe experiences, react in discussions, and write structured texts for both formal and informal contexts.
Modes of study
The course comprises 52 lessons (à 45 minutes) as well as independent work. The student workload of a 4 ECTS course is approximately 108 hours (including lessons and independent work). To pass the course, participants need to attend the lessons regularly and be active, do homework and take the final exam, which will be evaluated on scale 0–5. To pass the course, students need to attend approximately 80 per cent of the lessons.
You can also participate on the course without taking the final exam. This means that you will not get credits (ECTS) for the course.
