Online course

Contact online lessons 26.5.-25.6.2026 (no lesson on 18.6.) and 4.-20.8.2026 Tuesdays and Thursdays at 16.30–18.00. The course consist of 2 periods and there is a break in between the periods.

We will use the Zoom platform on the course. Participants will need a reliable internet connection, a microphone, and (if possible) a camera.

Target group

This course is designed for learners who already have A2–B1 level proficiency in the Ukrainian language and wish to improve their skills by deepening their understanding of cultural and historical contexts. 

Contents

Participants will get to know 12 Ukrainian cities, enrich their vocabulary, expand their knowledge of Ukrainian history and culture, and practice active language use.

Main topics:

The course covers the following cities: Sumy, Poltava, Zhytomyr, Bila Tserkva, Cherkasy, Kropyvnytskyi, Kremenchuk, Vinnytsia, Ivano-Frankivsk, Lutsk, Rivne, and Chernivtsi. Participants will learn about the unique characteristics of each city, related historical events, cultural traditions, and notable figures.

The course is suitable both as a continuation of the first course held in summer 2025 and as a standalone course for those who wish to explore Ukraine and its lesser-known cities through language, culture, and history.

The course provides an opportunity not only to develop language skills but also to deepen understanding of Ukraine and its rich and diverse culture.

Teaching methods: lectures, discussions, listening exercises, interactive activities

Main languages of instruction is Ukrainian, explanations will be given in Finnish (also English if needed).

Objectives

• Improve communication skills
• Enrich vocabulary, especially synonyms and verbs
• Introduce the cultural heritage of Ukrainian cities
• Develop listening comprehension in Ukrainian

Modes of study

The course consists of 30 lessons (à 45 min.) as well as independet work. There will be no end-of-the-course test.

Materials

Teacher's own materials. Moodle learning environment will be used on the course.

You will get an early bird discount of EUR10 when you enrol on this course by 26.4.2026 and pay the course fee online after filling in the enrolment form. After 27.4. the course fee will be 120 euros.
