Target group

Learn Finnish 2 is suitable for you if you have participated on Learn Finnish 1 or if you have reached the skill level A1.1 (on the European Framework of Reference for Languages, CEFR). You have studied chapters 1 to 3 from the textbook Suomen mestari 1, or have equivalent skills.

Objectives

The target level of the course is A1.2.

Contents

Students will continue studying Finnish on level A1. The aim of the course is to deepen students’ skills and proceed to the next language level. After mastering all the contents of the course, students will be able to cope with simple everyday situations, and will be able to talk about themselves using simple expressions. During the lessons, we will work independently and in pairs and small groups.

The core of the course is the textbook Suomen mestari 1. We will study chapters 4–6. In order to reach the target level, students are required to be active on the lessons, do homework, and study new words.

GRAMMAR: how to form and use the partitive singular, verb types 1–5, locative cases.

Languages of instruction are English and Finnish.

Modes of study

Active and regular attendance and an exam at the end of the course. The course is intensive: participants are required to be active and  study independently.

To pass the course, participants are required to attend at least 80 per cent of the lessons.

Scale: 0–5

We will use Moodle learning environment on the course.

Note! The textbook is not included in the course fee.

Please buy or borrow the book before the course begins! The book will be needed from the 1st lesson onwards. Each participant will need their own copy of the book.  A dictionary is also recommended.

We will study chapters 4–6.
